I always buy SUV's due to where I live, with 4 wheel drive of course. Then I look for comfort, ABS, and a pretty color LOL

I like ABS and prefer airbags, at least on the driver's side. Around here, ABS makes life SO much easier.

Air conditioning and power mirrors are nice but not needed.

All/four wheel drive is over-rated. Cruise control and power locks/windows are fairly useless. The only use I have for an automatic transmission is to shut the wife up; even though I do 99.2% of the driving, she insists on being able to drive my car. In the slippery stuff, they can actually be DANGEROUS.

The best car I ever had for these NH winters was an '87 Corolla. It was slow and sluggish (0-60 in a dangerous 14 seconds) but it skipped over the snow and was small enough that crosswinds didn't blow it off the road, even on glare ice. It climbed Mt Washington, started in -35F, and never let me down like every car I have had since. I miss that 'yota :(

Well, it has to have tires, steering wheel, seats are good but not necessary... motor of course.

Seriously tho, it has to have some power, good crash ratings, adequate gas mileage and you have to like it

I bought a Subaru Outback. In Minnesota, all-wheel drive is very important, and I like the big hatch area for groceries or whatever else I need to haul around. I also prefer a manual transmission over an automatic as I feel I have more control over the vehicle. As for extras, gotta have power mirrors & locks, CD player, and the heated seats (also a plus in these Minnesota winters). Can do without the satellite radio, GPS, leather, sun/moon roof.

I have been driving mini-vans the last 20 years, but the auto companies have stopped making my favorites. First they stopped the Ford Aerostar, and then the Chevy Astro. I am driving the Astro now, but when I have to replace it, I want another one just like it.

We have cloth interior, several accessory outlets for our inverter, swivel front seats, two rows of removable captains seats, a removable, washable carpet, a runner step-up, cruise control, and interior lights.

I could do without the power windows, which always seem to break down first, and all the computer-linked warning lights that malfunction as soon as you get the car home, and cost hundred of dollars to fix.
