  • Distinguishing normal from abnormal implies that you have some set of "normal" criteria within a certain domain. Ideally, one should state the context of the behavior in question, (i.e. reading novels is abnormal for cats) but for the sake of brevity, the context is often left out (reading novels is abnormal) leading to a lack of clarity. When it comes to personal behavior people often assume the domain of the culture they live in or their personal values without stating them. I don't think it's unfair to label something as normal or abnormal as these ideas exist as practical constructs, although it would be helpful to supply the given domain as modern venues of thought are usually not assumed to have a given cultural or personal context.
