  • In general terms, laser printers have higher resolution so they have better print quality. Inkjets create images by spitting out tiny droplets of ink, so their resolution is lower. If you look closely at a page printed on a laser printer and the same page printed on an inkjet, you will be able to see that the laser has smoother edges to the fonts. Inkjets are the way to go (as of 2003) for cheap color printing. Some of the more recent inkjets provide excellent color clarity and brightness, and are very well suited for printing photographs. Also, inkjets are usually quite a bit cheaper than lasers, and color inkjets are MUCH cheaper than color laser printers. While inkjet printers themselves are cheaper, their ink is much more expensive. Ink cartridges need to be replaced fairly often if you print a lot, and especially if you're printing pictures, and ink cartridges are not cheap. On the other hand, toner for laser printers is pricey, but will rarely need to be changed. If you're using a laser at home, you may never need to change the toner. All in all, each printer has its function. Inkjets are great for limited home use and for photo printing. Lasers are good for high-volume applications, like offices, or for applications that need extremely high print quality.
  • Simple answer: inkjet pinters are known as contact printers cause its basically a pen drawing on the paper and it makes contact. Laser printers use toner instead of ink and work like a xerox machine. the image is 'burned' onto the paper in a way and the spec color toner is put on top of it.

  • Ink jet printer contains liquid inks. Laser printer contains colour powder as in a xerox machine.
  • Very simply, inkjet uses ink, laser printer uses toner. Most inkjets heat up the ink to a high temperature then "jet" it onto the page, whereas laser printers use toner combined with heat and electrostatic charge to "fuse" the toner onto paper.
  • I WANT TO BUY A PRINTER THAT WILL MAKE VERY GOOD PHOTOS LIKE THE ONES I BUY AT WAL-MART OR C.V.S WILL A INKJET PRINTER EVER BE THAT GOOD? I FOUND AN LASER PRINTER ON SALE AT WAL-MART FOR 149.99 IS THAT A GOOD DEAL
  • inkjet printer contain liquid inks laser printer contain colour powdeer
  • 149.99 no thats not a really good deal unless you are buying an all in one.... like copy print scan and fax then 149.99 would be resonable but i could find you one better at staples for roughly 89.00 and thats a three in one and it prints high quality photos and has the 5 individual ink cartridges and whats nice is one specific color cost around 11 bucks after tax.... So laser printers are the way to go unless you want to pay out the ass in, ink.....
  • Major difference is a Laser printer uses toner cartridges and fuses the toner onto the paper whereas ink jet printers use ink of course and "spray" the ink on the paper. Laser printers come out dry where as ink jets come out damp. Cost per page is also much cheaper for Laser printers but Laser printers require a greater up front cost. If you print heavily it will cost less in the long run to purchase a laser printer. I consider ink jets to be disposable printers, when the ink runs out buy a new printer
  • Inkjets work by squirting tiny droplets of coloured ink onto the paper. If the paper is of a good quality you can print photo-quality prints from an inkjet printer. However it's a relatively slow process since the page is printed line by line. Laser printer use lasers to charge a drum with electricity, making it pick up a powdered pigment (toner) which is then transferred to the paper. It's very fast by comparison since it prints a whole page at a time, and its quality on regular paper is better than inkjet, but for colour prints like photos, it's not as good as an inkjet with good quality paper. Most laser printers are black & white anyway - colour lasers are VERY expensive.
  • Laser printers are similar to Xerox photocopiers, but with a laser in place of lenses and mirrors. They are initially expensive, but the toner is relatively inexpensive. The inkjet printer itself is quite cheap, but the ink cartridges are expensive.
  • ones called laser ones called inkjet :)
