  • It does. Perhaps roundtree should put some calcium chloride into some water and feel the water get warm. The reaction between water molecules and calcium chloride molecules make a new molecule CaCl2·2H2O, this reaction is exothermic, heat is released. The new liquid probably has a lower heat capacity than water (specific heat), so even though there is the same amount of energy, it is hotter.. why this occurs is a deep mystery to me.
