Question

Help answer this question below.

I had a large baby a few months ago. I am still incapable of doing a crunch, or even sitting up without using my arms. Is there a rehabilitation exercise I can do to regain the use of my abdominal muscles?

I am a man never had a baby LOL, but I’m a paraplegic (paralyzed from the waist down) to regain my abdominals I had to sit on a ball and keep my balance, and simply lean from side to side to gain strength in my core. This could be a good start for you and as you gain strength increase your range.

try a bit of swimming. It is easier to move in the water and you will be doing your body some good.

Try pilates. The core of pilates is small movements that maximize each maximize each exercise. A post-natal DVD of some sort would probably be good to do. Start with pelvic tilt holds (6-10 seconds) 15-20 reps twice per day. Go slowly and don't get discouraged.

Why don't you start with a therapy pool and graduate to swimming...at your own pace...and gradually use your legs more. Swimming is great for nearly every muscle you own. And your legs and abs are connected, so using your legs in any way will help the abs as well.
