Actually, the Catholic Church is responsible for the most number of charitable organizations around the world (there are too many Catholic Charities organizations to count).
Many people believe that the Vatican is much richer than it actually is (not to say that it isn't a very wealthy country/religious authority).
This is mainly becuase most of the Vatican's wealth is estimated in "priceless" artworks and artifacts that have been collected by the church for two millenia. Another aspect of it is that the Catholic Church holds more land in the world than any other private organization because several people leave their property to the Church in their wills and they own every lot that their churches, schools, and charities are built on - but they cannot do anything with those properties because it is being used by a Catholic branch.
Considering the 18000 refuges camps operated by the Catholic serveses as well as 30% of Afrucan reugees and countless orphanages and hospitals where would you say the mony goes?
probably...but it you notice the Vatican and the pope's accessories and Prada shoes..they keep most of it for themselves.
Themselves.
The pope needs a new gold dress...
i couldn't find exact numbers, but there are numerous Catholic charities, which do a lot of good work. even as a Christian, though, i do wonder about the Vatican's wealth. Jesus Himself said "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" (Matthew 19:24). if a Catholic reads this, i wonder if they could explain to me how the Vatican justifies the wealth it has accumulated, i am curious to learn about it.
If it does it doesn't give half enough, the Vatican is reportedly worth over €600 million!
the % of it goes to charities and the operation of the Roman Catholic Church
Probably enough to look good.
The majority of what is collected gets doled out to cover expenses, Heating/ Lighting bills, Money for food/cook, Retirement housing and costs for priests, insurances, most parishes have at least one car for their priests so that costs some money. After this a good portion goes to charity, and if you donate to an organization within the catholic church who have taken a vow of poverty even more of that goes straight out to charity. I have seen what Franciscan friars live on I can attest that you don't get fat off a diet of bread and water.
I was doing a volunteer thing with them for thanksgiving and while they gave away something like 600 turkeys and adjoin thanksgiving foodstuffs. They as a collective of probably 40 brothers picked at a single turkey and ate their bread and water.
Also if you donate straight to a catholic charity or like catholic relief services that money goes oversees to help sustain refugee camps and help those poor people in other countries.
Most people have these misconceptions that because the Vatican holds an immeasurable amount of wealth in Historic artifacts that it is somehow a giant corporation with huge amounts of wealth. They also don't realize that priests(the ones who don't take a vow of poverty) get a (small) salary just like everyone else that they can spend on whatever. So if the pope likes to wear prada shoes and feels like spending his money on it... I don't really care, he's still human and probably likes nice stuff like the rest of us.
-- This isn't to say that I'm in favor of keeping all that art(michaengelo's, davinci's, and others) locked away forever when that money could have better value helping those around the world. The church has its priorities, and one of them is to try and hold onto their claims to the past.

+6 to you. I'm surprised by some of the ignorance about the Roman Catholic Church's "finances" and its charitable work. I am not a Catholic. And there are a lot of reasons to fault the RCC or disagree with some of its doctrines and practices. IMO there are many things one can argue are "wrong" with the Church. The charitable practices of the Church and its members are *not* among them.
