Question

Help answer this question below.

My friends keep telling me I need to create a website for my business. How do I do this? Should I just purchase something from the Computer store or do I need to hire someone? How do I get it on the internet after I create it?

Those are some great answers. But really creating a website you will need atleast photoshop, dreamweaver or atleast a hacked version. The rest you can most definitely figure out even if its your first time. I have been designing pages for awhile now, and even in school i had to learn most of it myself. The most important part is making your website load friendly and saving your images for the web and such. If you dont know anything about search engine optimization and are just trying to get a page out, thats all you need.

Well there are many ways you can start a website... You can: Use a website making website then go pro (freewebs.com), or host websites including your own on hostmonster.com (can also do other peoples website this way) or use dreamweaver and use a host, and last but most least HTML... HTML is a launguage to make websites (most diffucult)

Here is a list of hardness (which is most hard):
    Hardest
    *html
    *hostmonster
    *dreamweaver
    *freewebs
    Easyiest

    Hope this helped...

You can make a website easily on free sites like www.tripod.com, www.geocities.com etc.

Another option is ask your ISP if they support it, most do.

The first appear automatically on the net since you make them online.

The second can work the same or you need an FTP-program. There are several free and paid options. Search with Google.

Sometimes you need HTML, sometimes they are WYSIWIG.
A very easy way without HTML knowledge is e.g. tiddlywiki.com.

    Just some tips:
If you're going to hire someone to design your web site for you, make sure you shop around. Ask to see their portfolio and make sure the material they produced actually made it onto the web (versus being dismissed by the customer). Ask for references. Check those references. And if you want something done but the designer says it's not a good idea or not possible - get a second and third opinion. Sometimes they know of which they speak, other times they just don't know how to do what you want or are too lazy to make it happen.

Last but not least, anyone can be taught to design web pages. It takes true creativity and talent to make web material that attracts users and keeps them interested.

[Update] Make sure the material in their portfolio was not stolen from elsewhere. Tough to do, but I've come across (small) web design outfits that claim others' work to be their own.

So much depend upon the kind of business you have and what you want to accomplish through your site. Also, it depend on your skills at developing sites, how much traffic you expect, and what sort of features you wish to present.

If all you want to do is give out your address and phone number for locals, get a free site.

I am recommending that people who wish to really increase traffic get a blog instead of a static site and keep the content flowing.

I would be happy to offer you some complimentary consultation on this via e-mail if you write to me. My e-mail address is in my profile.

Last year I too was new to creating websites. I came across this company: www.fasthosts.co.uk

They're pretty cheap and has an automated site builder, VERY easy to use. The best around. I created this site using it:

You could do something like city max or moonfruit which host your website as well has help you create it and even gives you templates.
or you could use a program such as Front Page or
Dreamweaver 8 but with that you will need to get hosting.
Some good names in hosting are Go Daddy and Dot 5.

    Links for the above :

There is a great new website that shows you step by step how to create a website. www.remotewebbuilder.com uses screen sharing everything you need to know. They teach you how to use Yahoo Sitebuilder and when you are satisfied you can publish your website to the Internet. It all works through the magic of screen sharing. Remote web builder logs onto your computer and takes you by the hand and you follow everything they are doing. You are right there on the phone as well in front of your computer screen in real time. You see everything that is taking place.

I thought this was pretty cool as it is always easier seeing something done with your own eyes rather than trying to understand something reading an owners manuel. They also offer a Live affiliate marketing course that teaches you how to make money with your new website. Live operator, Live computer class and you can make money. There's a winning combination.
