Under US law you can obtain citizenship elsewhere, however, the US will continue to only recognize your US citizenship. Thus, US does not have a problem with dual citizenship (as they don't legally recognize the other citizenship).
Some countries explicitly bar dual citizenship, however, so you would have to check what Canada's rule on that is. However, you might be able to obtain permanent residence (landed immigrant) status in Canada, which would give you the same employment and travel/border crossing benefits.
