I would like to say and think that this would/could never happen but the sad fact is that it does happen because I have actually seen it in action. Something like what you have described is very difficult to actually prove, yes things should be well documented but that dosen't mean that they are and if things are not well documented then the gaps are very quickly filled in are erased, in cases like this everyone very quickly closes ranks and I have known things to go missing if a complaint is made for example the notes of the patient. Also people are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their job, no one wants to be a whistleblower. I worked with a very incompetent doctor once who harmed a lot of patients because his practice was so bad and he had been doing this for 30 years and no one questioned him because they were all afraid, when patients complained in writing their letter of complaint would simply disappear. When I started working with this doctor I made a formal complaint about his practice, all my colleagues including my manager told me they would back me, however, when I made the complaint they all deserted me and I was left to fight it alone. He was eventually found guilty as charged and was asked to leave, but the relationship had broken down so badly between myself and thae staff that I managed that I left. I am not saying that all hospitals are like this I am just speaking from my own experience as I have worked in a hospital setting for over 20 years, unless the case is an open and shut one then negligence is very difficult to prove and the hospital will put up a good fight.

It's very hard for a hospital to lie about something like that. Everything has to be charted and too many people know. As the saying goes 3 people can keep a secret so long as 2 are dead. I was in the hospital for back surgery that left me a paraplegic in a wheelchair and it's in the paper work what went wrong that did this to me. The hard part will be finding a lawyer willing to take your case and them willing to work to find the mistakes, however, you said it was a case of giving the wrong medicine. You may find a lawyer willing to take that case. Be warned you may only have a year to file a case.

Yes they do lie and cover for each other. Unless you get some one in the group who has a conscience. It happened to me when my mother was in the hospital with Leukemia and a stupid nurse with a bad cold walked out of her room as I was walking in coughing and told the nurse who was writing up notes on my mom that she felt lousy. She had no mask on and my mother had no immune system...she had just gone thru a week of chemo. Within a couple of hours her lungs started filling with fluids and she began to drown and go downhill fast. 1 month later after being on her death bed because ot the stupidity of that nurse....I talked to the doctor and told him of the incident.....he quickly corrected me and informed me my mom was very sick with lots of problems before that nurse was around her. Funny she was awake and aware of everything till after that nurse was around her. Yeah they will cover for each other.
