You best option is probably to purchase new home speakers.
Speaker technology has evolved quite a bit in the past 20 years, so the price/quality equation is much more favorable.
Car speakers won't work well for several reasons:
1) They have a 4 ohm nominal impedance, as opposed to the 8 ohm nominal impedance of home speakers.
2) Car speakers are designed to work in a much smaller space than home speakers
3) If you use car speakers, you'll have to build an enclosure for them (that costs money)
4) Car speakers are designed to take advantage of the 'cabin gain' in a vehicle. You won't get that in your living room.
Good luck.

You're reading Can I replace my home audio speaker with a quality car audio speaker? Home speakers are Advent Legacies with rotten foam. I know I can replace the foam, but I also question the quality of the 20 year old Advents vs new-off-the-shelf car audio speakers.
