Help answer this question below.
some times it does become a chore anyway. Its like all those piano lessons one hated to do as a kid but are grateful when they are older that they can play beautifully and really enjoy it. I say you really cant be too young. I started mine at 4. We lived in a very super small town and the teacher ran off with some lover and left town. So much for the lessons.
You can take them to Tots classes where they just play and tumble and that leads them into and keeps them supple for starting basic at 4/5
I wouldn't start before 4 or 5. Any earlier and they don't get too much from it.
Try as soon as a dance instructor will take her/him. and to keep the child from getting bored, try all different types of dance, not just one.
I remember the first time I saw a ballet dancer, I was 4 and I thougth she was so pretty. I told my mom she was pretty like Barbie and I wanted to be just like her. I wanted to dance my entire life and my parents never enrolled me. Once AI got to college I took dance as an ellective and soon realized it is my life passion. I was an accounting major. All those years (13 yrs) were wasted because my mom would not recognize the love I had/have for this wonderful form of art. It is great for young girls and teenagers. It helps with grades b/c they have something to keep them motivated, it builds self confidence and pride within onesself. It helps girls realize they are beautiful just the way they are... and so many other great things come from it. I would say 4 would be a good age to enroll your daughter. oh.. and its a great door opener. with a foundation in ballet your can do so many things more easily later on in life; yoga, cheerleading, sports in general, gymnastics. It creates good flexability and encourages a healthy life style early on. you wont have to worry about her slouching and having bad posture. you will have a little lady.
As long as it is fun for her, enroll her in age appropriate classes. Some schools allow children as young as three if they are potty trained. The early classes should be no more than 1/2 hour long.

You're reading If your very young child shows an aptitude and a love for dance, how young is too young to start them in classes? (Don't want it to become a chore for her)
