If you never crash, no it's not.
OTOH, I have been skiing since I was twelve (I won't admit how many decades that is, but my first set of new skis were endorsed by the Mahre brothers...:-D...) and I have *never* bothered wearing a helmet.
If you're not getting "big air" or skiing through trees at speed, then the chances a helmet sparing you injury are pretty small.
I don't know some places may require it...but if you don't please don't hit any trees; several people are killed every ski season from hitting trees. Most have massive head injuries. At least a helmet may reduce the chances of head and brain injuries and even death.
How many of you will be vacationing to ski or snowboard this year? How often do you ski or board?
