Yes. My parents raised sheep for a while. One day, the sheep got out of their field into a small wood full of wild garlic, where they ate for an hour or so. Two days later, two of them were sent for slaughter for the home freezer. Their flesh tasted distinctly (and very pleasantly) of garlic.

It is alleged that battery hens taste fishy because they are mostly fed on fishmeal.

The animal inquestion would process the food it ate in a natural, preprogrammed way, according to what it's nutritional needs are at any one time. For example, if it needed more muscle mass, it would digest the proteins accordingly and use the freed amino acids to build up muscular filaments. So at first glance, diet wouldn't have much of an effect (this is conjecture on my part).

However, proteins composed of different amino acid sequences that closely resemble the original may still fit the bill, but would perhaps taste different. Plus, different carbohydrate molecules do taste different and may be processed differently whilst still giving the animal the same energy load. So, a cow that eats grass in the UK may taste differently (slightly) to a cow that eats grass in USA, or Japan, because the composition of the grass in different coutries varies. Of course, local species would have adapted over time to allow them to process different food substrates to fulfill their needs. Apparently, cows from Japan produce the best milk because of the constitution of the grass they eat, they have adapted to produce enzymes capable of digesting that particular species of grass.

So ultimately, yes, there could be regional variations. However, which all the different forms of cooking, seasoning, storage/processing, suaces and accompaniements, I would imagine that most regional taste differences would be overcome by these flavour enhancing techniques.

It has been known on occasion for me to be wrong though. :-)

Yes it does, a small example is Corn fed chicken.

The diet of an animal definately makes a difference to the taste,
I suppose it would have some bearing on the taste but since sweets are bad for animals of anykind it would probably taint the taste through ill health.
That is just my opinion not fact

I would say yes because what an animal consumes does affect the taste of the meat. I know that if deer eat a lot of nettles the meat will have a bitter taste.

The meat of a wild turkey tastes a lot different from that of a farm raised one so I think yes.
