I inherited a Marlin golden 39-A with serial # V8867. I was wondering if anyone could give me an approximate age?

    Your 39A was manufactured in 1962. Between 1949 and 1972, Marlin used a letter as the first character of a serial number to indicate the year of manuafacture. For 1973 and onward, the letters were dropped in favor of an all-number format. To find the year for these firearms, take the first 2 numbers in the serial number and subtract it from 100.
