What does your policy say? Does it mention the engine in its coverage? What caused the engine to blow up? Did you "exercise reasonable and normal care" in your use of the car? Before you ask US what the insurance company should do, you need to get your policy out and study exactly what they (and you) agreed to. I had a "bumper-to-bumper" warranty on a used car I bought three or four years ago, and it DID cover such things, but there WAS a "normal and reasonable care" provision in it, and when I had a problem, they wanted evidence (which I had) that I had maintained it. They covered all the damage except one tire, which they showed me was excluded under "normal wear and tire." Since what they paid was over $1800 (and I had paid $900 for the extended warranty), I was not inclined to complain. But I HAD carefully read the terms before I bought it.

No. No matter how comprehensive your insurance is, no policy covers mechanical breakdown, regardless of how it was caused. In fact, most policies will very clearly state that mechanical breakdowns are specifically excluded from coverage. This is what a car warranty is for. You should contact your auto dealership and see what coverage you have for the engine.
