The anti-depressants regulate the levels of the chemicals serotonin (and others ) that reach your brain. Once you stop taking the drugs...your body tries to regulate the levels itself...It wants to maintain the levels that you had when you were taking the drug....
It is what is in the medicine that causes that , and it is very important that you don't go Cold Turkey and quit.
Well, I wanted to know what the biological mechanism is in withdrawal. My doctor said to take half of my regular dose for two weeks, then I could stop, but I experienced dizziness, tinnitus, headaches and muscle twitches.
SSRI(Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor)is the main content in majot Anti-depressant.I think it causes withdrawal symptoms slowly.
