Question

Help answer this question below.

Blood banks say those who have been to Germany for more than 6 months cannot donate blood because we might have CJD (human variant of Mad Cow Disease), but I've not lived in Germany for 17 years now! Certainly CJD won't happen to me if it hasn't already?

nope, you may be a carrier, that's the problem, you can pass it on to others. it lays dormant till it triggers. don't know whta triggers it. i can't give blood either because i lived in britain for over 6 months too.

I'm the same for having lived in England in 1983.
The thinking was originally that the time before this disease showed was between 10 - 20 years after ingesting the prions (the virus like protein that causes CJD), now they are thinking it could be even longer before it rears it ugly head in humans.
The worst part is, if you do show symptoms, nothing can be done, and it cannot even be fully diagnosed until autopsy.

CJD can remain dormant in human blood for 40 years or more. You may well carry CJD without symptoms yourself.
