You need to go to a class for pointe work .

You can seriously damage your feet ankles and knees if you do not learn properly.

    Good Luck.

U would have to go to some class or if like u said that u are to shy to go into a class think about this:
taking private lessons with a dance teacher.
Pointe is very dangerous & u could even hurt urself if u try to self-teach. Plus u have to be enrolled in a dance studio in order to buy ur pointe shoes from a dance store. ( they will fit u for the perfect pointe shoe) Trust me when i was getting my first pointe shoes ( i was enrolled in a dance studio) there was this mom with a daughter that walked in to the dance store & the daughter saw me getting fitted for pointes & i was up on then & she said to her mom ( i want a some pointe shoes) then the mom went up to the person that was working there & tried to buy some but she was told that in order to get them she & to enroll her daughter in a dance studio cause she could hurt or even break ur ankle! without the right instrustion.
A pointe fitting is when u go into a dance store & they fit u for your point shoes.

I had 4 yrs of ballet before going into pointe.

You have to work up to pointe - and only your ballet instructor will know when it's time. It takes about two years (at the VERY least) to get up to pointe. Part of dance is the performance - and it sounds like it might be good for you to overcome your shyness in a safe environment as a dance studio to work on it. You don't HAVE to do the performances, but I think - in time - you'll over come it. Get into a good class...and you'll see!

    please don't do that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i used to dance on pointe when i was younger and sincerely urge you to attend a small class.

once, i really hurt myself (while on a break in dance class) because i wanted to try doing all the steps we covered faster. i'm so glad my teacher caught me and stepped in and helped me "untwist" myself---it was very painful.

if you are shy about your body, you can always wear a loose dance shirt on top and a skirt, shorts or even a dress over your tights. most dance classes now are pretty casual so you can get away with that.

also, note that those girls are all focused on their OWN bodies while in class so they won't really pay attention to yours as much :)

    so stop worrying!!!!!!!!

enroll in a class! and have (safe) fun :)

Lizzie, go to class. Learn to get over your shyness. You do that by putting yourself in uncomfortable, but healthy, situations and gain confidence. Everyone is shy when learning something new, just don't let yourself not experience life because you are shy. After doing it for awhile you'll get more comfortable. Good Luck my dear!!

Since you were out of dance for a few years, I urge you to go take a class, and stay on flat ballet for a little while. Train yourself, and then ask about going on pointe. At my studio, I am in my fourth year of ballet and they still tell me I'm not strong enough to go on pointe. Take it slow, so as not to hurt yourself.

And as for classes, don't sweat it :) We welcome our new girls and always help them when they're behind.

    Good luck!

At my dance school, people have to be dancing for 7-10 years before you get on pointe. There is someone who is probably one of the best dancers I know and her ankles are not ready for it, yet. Please don't hurry to get on pointe.
