    A good ventilated glass
    or plastic aquarium with a
well fitted lid are most suitable
    due to their small size.

    Wire cages should have bars
no more than 8 to 10 mm apart.

    Chinese & Russian Hamsters
are hardy and do not require
    extra heating provided they are
    supplied with plenty of bedding
    and are in a draught-free
    position out of direct sunlight

keep him in a glass tankfor a few weeks till he gets bigger, then he'll be big enough to put in a regular hamster cage.

I had two dwarf hamsters, and I put them in a regular cage, and they did just fine. Once they got bigger (which didn't take long) they seemed to appreciate the extra room to run around in.

There actually are cages made for dwarf hamsters. There are called minis, by the company Crittertrail. However, if you can't find one of these cages-there are alternatives. Using a plastic tub with a cut out in the lid can work. You would have to use a larger one, but this is a fewer safe alternative for your hammy. If this does not work for you, you can try using a small finch cage for a time being. Remember, hammies are smart enough to figure out how to get out of situations other than the cages designed for them. The reason the hamster cages are made this way is because of excessive chewing, digging and the ability for some to open doors. Hope this gives you a few quick ideas, good luck.

The hamster will grow and enjoy exploring the cage. With age they slow down quite a bit. Put a small glass jar in whatever cage you get and I bet the hamster will enjoy sleeping in it.

it is seriously worth getting a big cage for small hamsters trust me. iv had a dwarf hamster and the cage was way to small and she used to chew the bars from boredom and it rubbed off the fur on her nose so i got her a large one with bars and she was fine. really happy! xxx hope this helped good luck pet inn cages are the best ones to go for as they are easy to clean

A glass jar... make sure you poke holes in the hamster first though so it can breathe...

Don't worry too much traditional hamster cages are wayyy to small for nay hamster anyways. Try using an aquarium, a 20 gallon long is the recommend size and is considered the smallest size any hamster should be housed in.

there is no such thing as a hamster cage that is too large. the more room they have the happier they are. the happier they are the longer they live so why not make yours as happy as possible?
