Help answer this question below.
Tell the b/f to call his insurance people and see if he's covered driving another. If his car was in accident see if his policy covers a rental while his is being repaired
In MA. the answer would be no, but other state laws will vary, best call your insurance company and find out.
He needs to check his policy to see if it covers him when he drives a borrowed car. It is possible it could.
However, most companies will cover someone you allow to drive your vehicle as long as they are legally licensed. They do not have to be named in/on the policy.
I would also check your daughter's insurance since this should be the case.
Cars are insured, not people. He would be assumed to have been given permission to use her car, and any accident would be covered by her insurance, not his.
Your daughter should call up customer service and add him as a named driver on her cover
How's he 'laid up' and where?
Yes, as long as the vehicle is insured, it is covered no matter what the driver. In any state.
Depends on state laws and insurance policies. With some companies the insurance goes with the driver and not the car. Others are the other way around. And in some states if your name is not on the policy or title then the insurance is not valid. Check with your company...and soon!!
There is any easy solution, especially if they live together. Call the insurance company and add the boyfriend as a licensed driver in the house who may drive the car. If you do not any accident may not be covered. Remember, insurance follows the car, not the driver, which is to say, that if someone other than the insured driver is driving said vehicle, any damage or MVA may not be covered.
I was a passenger in a vehicle that was hit head-on by a drunk driver. My boyfriend, who had only a small injury was taken to jail, even though we were hit while waiting to make a left-hand turn and were not moving, because HE DID NOT HAVE INSURANCE. The only thing that got him out of jail was that I was insured. But that was Farmer's insurance back in the 1980's, so it really depends on your insurer. See the FAQ section on-line at your insurance carrier's site and you may find the specific information without alerting your agent.

You're reading My daughter's boyfriend is driving her car while his is laid up. He has insurance on his vehicle but is not named on her policy. If he were involved in a single car collision, would he be covered by either his or her insurance?
