Congratulations on adopting a pup! As mentioned, this little girl may have allergies...could be to foods, as she was recently introduced to a new diet! It could also be that she HAD fleas, and still has the allergy reaction from them.

Since you will, of course, have her Vet checked quite soon, I would show your vet these concerns and get an opinion, based upon someone being able to SEE her and what is going on.

FYI: With regards to mange. Just about all mammals, including HUMANS carry a type of Mange. WE carry a type of mange on either side of our nose. I learned this when one of my cats, the now elderly Shasta, kept getting odd hot spots. My Vet after doing a scraping on Shasta, (and finding nothing at all), did a scraping on MY skin and then his own. Sure enough, there they were! I wasn't especially delighted, but it was rather interesting, and new news to me!

There are several different types of Mange. Sarcoptic, Demodectic and Cheyletiella. I'm including a web site that you can access to read more about these types of Mange. It's written in an easy to understand, clear manner, and is, to the best of my knowledge accurate!

If it should turn out to be an allergy, you'll have much more research to do. As my own Vet explained to me...Often allergy tests on animals are no more accurate than those done on people. Sometimes they are able to tell with a fair amount of accuracy WHAT the allergen IS, and sometimes the tests simply are not on target at all.

In addition to possible food allergies, it could even be something the pup might have been bathed with prior to coming home with you, or even a different soap used to wash the puppy bedding.

First step, get her in to see your Vet, and take it from there, ruling out what it is NOT. Best of luck to you both!

It may be an allergy. One of my dogs has a skin allergy and has to be given a shot every three - six months of a steroid.
Also, you say no fleas but if I could stress one thing to pet owners (besides NOT abusing them and to get them fixed) .. it would be to spread the word in how VERY serious fleas are to your pet's health. They can cause worms (they bite at fleas and swallow them).. very bad skin conditions even when you do not see a flea .. ONE flea bite can cause such an irritation in pets .. you will see thinning of hair and scab looking places.. once a month All-In-One pills that prevent heart worms, fleas etc are wonderful.
There are a few signs of distress in dogs.. constant licking (in the air not always actually licking themselves) .. dry nose.. lethargic.. withdrawn.
I would see a vet asap and not try and diagnose yourself.

If you haven't taken her to the vet yet, try some hydrocortisone cream on the dry, mangy looking parts. Put it on lightly, and make sure she doesn't just lick it off.
When we adopted my baby girl, (all grown now), she had no hair on her head. I figured it was mange or she had been chewed on by older dogs. As a last resort, (I couldn't afford a vet so soon), I tried the cream twice daily. Hair was growing in within the the first 8-10 days. Within 3 weeks, it was healed.
But, DO see a vet, in case it's something that requires specific prescriptions.

It sounds like mange to me. My pom had red mange when she was a puppy. She inherited it from her mother. It usually goes away with age. Some mange is contagious but easily treated with medicine. Take her to the vet and they will take a culture of the area and see what it is. It's not serious but it is contagious.
