My friend just asked me to be the God Mother for her baby (due in April/May) - what is the typical "responsibility" of being a God parent if there is any?

The job of a Godparent is to make sure the child is raised Christian in the event that the parent dies before the child is grown. Even if you are Bhuddist, you can honor your friend's wishes by taking the child to church every week in the event that your friend dies and leaves the child an orphan.

- You should be :) It isn't a decision most parent's make lightly. My next door neighbors are Godparent's to my daughter. I know the whole family for four generations. I taught some of the current generation of kids. I know that ALL the kids in the family are well raised, well behaved and successful. The whole family dotes on my child. They are not only Godparents but also Guardians. If anything happens to me, my child moves across the street. I know she would be well loved and in good hands.

I was asked by my brother to be a godfather. I told him that I did not believe in churches and religions. He replied that was why he picked me.
