I never really thought about it until they started drilling for natural gas near us. Apparently I own several miles down.

I find this question to go deep. I find it ironic how we has humans cry for peace but place boarders up claiming ownership and defend to the death our right to own it. I feel the earth belongs to all of us when dwell upon it until we die.

It depends on where the land is that you bought, in regards to the mineral rights laws. Some places that you buy land, you get the mineral rights and some places, you don't.
