If God made human beings with the natural ability to orgasm, then why is it so inappropriate to enjoy doing so according to some religions?

Good question - when you think of some cultures that perform female castration as part of their religion - abosulutely horrendous...., but there are many other cases not so extreme. Im an atheist but often try to put the religious point of view across as I try to be open minded..... Most religions seem to accept that sex within marriage is OK. For some reason, some religions seem to equate pleasure as to do with the devil and the avoidance of pleasure is therefore holy. Thus an orgasm could be seen as bad. If you think of monks, they avoid most of the pleasure of life - including the love of a woman. That way theu become closer to God. Then of ocurse "devil worshippers" are often viewed as always fornicating, dancing nude in the open.... Does sound like more fun doesnt it. The devil uses pleasures to tempt us? My answer is more comments than an answer, sorry. But as no one else has answered yet ...

Some people and/or cultures seem to embrace self denial as an idea that represents something to strive for--an unattainable goal. It has always escaped me why. Sex is something natural--if it was not enjoyable the human race would die out. Personally I think that it is all FEAR based. So many people are afraid of the power of pleasure, sexuality, etc. Perhaps because of those who abuse it, perhaps because it is something that cannot be controlled by others, perhaps because it is such an intimate enjoyment (not like drinking a Pepsi). It is a shame that more religions do not celebrate the God given gift of sexuality, isn't it?

Orgasms were meant to be one of those pleasures that we know in marrage. It's the same thing w/ sex overall, wait until marrage.

I don't usually answer my own questions, but... I think it may have to do with the projection of disapproval,onto a ubiquitous source, in order to get the focus off of the individual, that may have extreme inhibitions and shame within themselves about having one.

I was raised christian and always held the belief that sexual pleasure was a gift God gave us to enjoy.
