I can't speak for other parts of the country, but if you live in the Denver Metro area or along the Front Range of Colorado, then there are definitely openings for courier drivers. Business in Colorado is really starting to come back, and the Denver courier industry is experiencing very good success.
There is opportunity to work evenings because many courier companies only operate during the day. There are also many courier companies that run early morning sceduled or dedicated routes for bakeries, payroll delivery, medical and dental labs, contruction companies, and many, many more. Courier jobs can start anytime between 2 and 9 am, and no matter when you start, most of them are done by 3 or 4 pm.
Good couriers will earn anywhere from $10-$25 per hour depending on the type of vehicle you drive and the kind of deliveries that you make. Experienced drivers who get jobs with FedEx or UPS may make more, but they will work long hours and not have much flexibility. Couriers with the big national courier companies usually make the least and couriers with successful and growing privately held couriers like Interstate Express Messenger and similar, usually make the most. Some couriers working dedicated routes in their own dock or flatbed trucks can earn up to $45/ hr. or more.
Many Denver Couriers are looking for drivers! For more info and employment opportunities go to http://couriersdenver.com
I have always thought it would be fun to be a courier driver.
