    Weight gain happens when you eat more calories than you burn. Each person's daily caloric intake is different, but the FDA uses 2000 calories as a generic average. If you eat less calories than you burn, daily, then you will lose weight. Once your intake of calories is burned up, the body starts burning fat. When you exercise you burn calories. So, if you exercise and eat appropriately, you will lose weight, because you will be storing less calories. If you exercise regularly, your body tones and operates more efficiently and you burn more calories daily, even when your not exercising. So regular exercise will help you lose weight faster than dieting alone.
