    G'day Marshallmathers,

    Thank you for your question.

No. Moonshine liquor is made from yeast fermenting to produce ethanol and then seperating out the alcohol. It is not aged as other rums would be meaning that it contains impurities and toxins such as methanol. A study by the Virginia Health System found that over half of the moonshine sampled had lead levels above Federal guidelines meaning that people who drink it could get lead poisoning. As well, even if you trust him, he is probably not very experienced at making rum. Last year, 35 people were killed in Nicaragua from drinking bootleg liquor similar to what your friend is selling.

If you are at school, you are probably not old enough to drink the rum legally in any case. I would make sure that you live to reach a legal drinking age and give bootleg rum made by a schoolkid a big miss.

I have attached sources for your reference.

No because the way rum is made, it could have poisonous methanol in it, which could be deadly

Everyone so far has answered this from an weird stance. First thought is about the rum. What everyone should be thinking is why is a kid selling rum in school. No, do not trust 'bathtub' anything. During prohibition, many people died because of bad spirits. And what idea does some kid have about brewing anyways? I'm sure they may have picked something up from a book or watching pops brew up the 'good stuff', though they have not enough experience behind them to make good spirits. Then again, maybe someone should look into this. Kids selling alcohol at school. Oh yeah, I think my tax dollars should go to giving you an education so you can distill alcohol. Right.

No, you need know how it was made first. If the spirit is produced from fermenting sugar then distilling the product would make Ethanol, thats fine to drink, although the Rum flavour would probably be ordinary.

Modern home Ethanol(Alcohol) production is an easy process and the Ethanol produced won't make you go blind as it is made from distilling fermented sugar.

Governments around the world de-natured (poisoned Alcohol) to limit its use and protect their large Tax Revenues from commercial Liquor production, this killed many people and blinded others.

Its probably OK, his Grandfather may make it,but don't take the risk.

distilling alcohol creates several different types during the process, some of which are deadly if you consume too much of them, so the different types have to be separated. Someone who doesn't know how to do this can give you something that is a mixture of all of them and it can kill you.

Are you crazy?! Go lick a toad or something for free! Just Kidding!!

Raid your folks liquor stash like everybody else did while young, and test it out. Don't buy home made brew from a minor whose got a local brewery...in a trash can out back in the sticks.

    and

SERIOUSLY... don't lick a toad, kid.
