Help answer this question below.
Step 1: Your onboard sound-chip must be enabled in your motherboard's BIOS.
IF disabled: no amount of installing drivers, etc will enable that chip to function.
In fact, that sound chip wont even appear in device manager, etc if disabled.
Typically this BIOS option is set to enabled from the factory as most have no need
to change it unless they're installing a sound card (functions better than the chip).
I've also seen where "Windows Audio Service" wasn't set properly in services.msc.
Verifying the BIOS setting is step 1. Post back if you need further instructions.
We're all here to help, good luck!
I got mine working merely by installing the AC97 driver from my WinXP CD.
You have to load the drivers for it...
Well go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager>look for any yellow? (audio)
if you see one the like the guys said the drivers are missing and if you do not have the CD say the motherboard as the audio could be on board audio or CD for a audio card if its separate.
You can run a FREE program called: Belarc which you can go to google and download and run it and it will tell you what you have installed on you system
Also you can run a FREE program called Radarsync which finds & downloads driver & installs them for you, it finds about 90% of most all common drivers out there.
Also check on control panel>sounds and audio devices>volumne tab>make sure that the mute is not checked
NEED TO FIND YOUR DRIVERS?
Go http://www.radarsync.com/ this software will find them and update them for you all for free, just click on the red download button (start free download free version) 1.18 MB is the size of file just choose where you would like to save it too.
(you may also need this file Microsoft NET Framework 2.0)
