Help answer this question below.
If what you mean is that it implies "god" doesn't control every aspect of everything, everywhere, at all times, then I think you have lost touch with reality.
You find the word random offensive? That's a bit over the top, don't you think?
It's just a word that has become popular amongst young adults of the Generation Y persuasion such as myself. It is no different to the sayings or words from bygone eras such as "Far out", "trippy", or the most overused word in the world, "Whatever".
It can be used in many contexts, the majority of which are not offensive by any stretch of the imagination. It's just a word that is popular right now. Chillax.
Huh?
Offensive? I've never seen it used offensively. It is ignorance manifest, yes. It must be a computer induced thing. It has sprung up the way 'like' did in speech a couple of decades ago. I would agree to saying it is annoying, depressing, and even infuriating. It isn't offensive though. Other than that, I'm on your side.
okay andy. you seem to have written this post just to get everyone riled up. the fact that you spell random like a cuss word means that this is something important to you. we respect that. but listen to what we have to say before justifying yourself before listening. you will find helpful what we have to say, otherwise you would not have posted this question. back off a little, and listen to what people have to say.
It's because you're such a lovely human being.
Random?
i have to say i am at a complete loss with this question. i have read other posts and your comment responses to them, and i still dont see how this could be an offensive word...
you have even inspired me to get the dictionary out to see if i have missed something, and still, no clue as to why this word would offend anyone...
random hey... :) (JoKe, try not to take offense)
This question is so random.
You mean "random?" I didn't know there was a craze, but what's offensive about it?
If that is the worst thing you have to worry about, you are in a much better place than I am.

You're reading What started this craze for people using the word "r****m" (pronounced to rhyme with "tandem")? I hear it everywhere, I see it when I look on the Internet, and quite frankly, I find it offensive.
Comments
I never said anything about "God", did I? Things happen because they're meant to happen, otherwise they wouldn't happen. I know as much as the next person that there isn't a Great Man In The Sky looking down on us. Refer to the Red Dwarf episode "White Hole", probably the only time when the use of the r-word (as used by Kryten) was acceptable, because it proved the ridiculousness of such a concept in the first place.

kudos to you uncacal!!!!! okay. this is what i think. i think that the word is overused, although it hardly ever means anything negative. the same with 'um' 'like' etc. it is poor speech that you cannot come up with other words meaning 'random' but i have never found it to be offensive.

Thank you. I guess I probably should brush up on my Krytenian philosophy, though.
by uncacal on January 22nd, 2009
haha never heard of it...maybe random means something totally different in 'krytenian philosophy'

Kryten is the most irrefutably logical character in Red Dwarf, so that means "Krytenian philosophy" is another name for pure, unalloyed LOGIC.
