Question

Help answer this question below.

I think my gerbil is dying. She's really cold and weak. Will I be able to revive her? She's about 3 years old. How will i be able to revive her? Should I just let her die in peace?

Unfortunately they don't live long and yours is past it's life expectancy already. Make it comfy till it goes. :(

Put her cage in a warm quiet room and just make her feel as comfy as posible. Don't bother taking her to the vet, if she's dying its better to let her die in peace then having a bunch of people holding her.

Let her go. Three years is actually pretty old for a hampster. Just put her some place warm and cozie and leave her alone. Y ou can't revive her because anything you do will more than likely kill her.

Do you have a warm place to bring her? How about just wrap her in a towel or blanket and if it is her time to go she will :(

Just make sure it is not going into hibernation. I had a hamster when I was young that I moved into my bedroom and placed its cage on a north wall in January. The drastic change in temp caused it to hibernate, but my dad and I didn't know they did that, so we buried it. OOPS!

My gerbil is also dying...I think. He is weak and seems cool to the touch. He is only 2 months old. :( Two days ago he started acting really strangely...flipping all over the place and spinning in wild circles. Then his left eye bled for a few hours. After the bleeding stopped he seemed to be getting better, but then he took what seems to be a turn for the worst. Up till a few hours ago he was still eating and drinking, but now he is just sleeping. His breathing seems shallow too. I am crushed. I know I haven't had him very long, but he became a very valued family member VERY quickly. Flash is the best gerbil I have ever met. Any ideas what might be the cause of this..and if there is ANY hope he will recover?

hi,you know i hate to say this, but hamsters and gerbils, normally live for no more than 2 and a half years.you should just make her as comfortable as possible, and let nature take its course.

I'd let her last with yogurt chips, soft food for energy first. Then bring her to the vet.

Pardon me but, this question is long ago.

    Is she.. .. still alive?

I have pet rats and find they usually only live about 3 years (in their last few weeks, they get skinny and don't eat so much). Gerbils are related to rats so I suppose their lifespan would be similar to rats. I've never seen Gerbils or Hamsters for sale in pet shops here, just rats, mice & guinea pigs.

You should take her to the vet, 3 years old is good but gerbils can live 6 years, so shes about middle age. Keep her fluids up, syringe feed her if you have to, try putting a tiny amount of salt and sugar like a grain of each in some lukewarm water (boil the water an allow to cool) repeat this every 2 hours until the vet see's her. Also keep her in a warm dark draught free area. Hopefully the vet will be able to help, gerbils are quiet hardy so she might pull through
