escape

Many start out using drugs due to peer pressure and the need to be one of the crowd. They continue b/c of the same reason or it's a great escape from your daily problems. People also "self-medicate" for pain and depression.
-
Peer pressure i suspect.
-
Peer presure, curiosity, escape, pain relief, recreation.
-
pain.. Or if a person you really respect and admire has benefitted and pumped up how good a particular drug is then..What's to stop you?
-
availability, curiosity, and perhaps their role models may have something to do with it
-
Well for me it was curiosity, I actually had the opposite of peer pressure, I always wanted to, but the people I was with thought I was too young. Also once I had started I thought everything that anyone had told me about drugs were lies, since it felt so good and everything I had heard about them was bad. I have since realized it is not all false, just biased, if both sides of the equation were taught not as many people would fall under the influence of drugs.
-
Besides medical reasons? I started using alcohol because I was told not to do it. I just had to see what all the fuss was about. Similar story for marijuana.

Curiosity, Escape(from problems, pain, etc.) & Rebelling are 3 big reasons. Also, if it's readily available to you it is tempting to at least try it. For me, the first time I smoked pot was because my Mom smoked and she was out of the house. I had a friend over and we found it and smiled at each other and we both just knew that we were going to try it right then.
-
I started to experience something new, and to open my mind to new ideas. And to make music more intense.
-
I started because I had done thorough research on the spiritual aspects of certain drugs and wanted to research for myself.
-
Looked like fun and it really was, i would like to say drugs are really bad but i have has some of the best moments of my life on drugs and wouldnt take them back for the world, just stay clear of crack, heroin, meth and other crazy things
-
There are many reasons, but a few that stand out for me are: Life becomes boring, no more challenges, going to a place where only you need to impress you and if you don't, who gives a s..t?(no pressure), feel happy, enjoy yourself and stimulate your brain the way the world and people can't anymore.
-
I bleieve the need to fit in plays a major role in a first time user's mind. The peer pressure is usualy only for the first couple of time though but after that you realize what kind of escape you can get from different drugs. Before it is all over you have discovered different drugs give you different highs and those highs lead to different emotions. So when you find a drug that makes you feel good you are more likely to get addicted to that drug. take Marijuana for example i have smoked weed for many reasons starting off as peer pressure and leading to me loving the release i get from the drug. But i wouldn't suggest anyone doing any type of drugs but this isn't a perfect world and people will do what feels good

I dunno, it baffles me still!

these are the Lyrics to comfortably Numb Hello, Is there anybody in there Just nod if you can hear me Is there anyone at home Come on now I hear you're feeling down I can ease your pain And get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more aaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone And I have become Comfortably numb.
