Clearly, it's because he's got it into his mind to try it. From the very fact that you're asking this question, I take it that you're not so sure about anal sex yourself.
If you're not (and that's fine), then you perhaps need to draw a line in the sand with him. If he doesn't have the sense to take you seriously and drop the subject, then you might need to think if he's the right guy for you.
