I find it interesting that there was a Congregationalist Church wherever Laura Ingalls Wilder lived. Did Congregationalists move across the country together, following maps and directories, as the Quakers did?

The only thing the show had in common with the books and the real life people were the names of some of the characters.

The books are largely autobiographical, except that she left out a couple of time periods that were too painful to write about and altered the time line to make the story flow without them. They are an incredible window into the time period. They are also thrilling to read as a kid and terrifying as an adult. They came so close to death so many times that it is incredible that they survived.
