Once. A dive buddy on a drift on, drift off wreck dive. The idea of a drift is to get on the bottom ASAP, usually dropping like a stone in the strong current, completely negative buoyancy and inflating your buoyancy compensator before you hit bottom. You do a final equipment check before jumping off the boat and then it's free fall. His regs delivered one breath then quit (rare). He had no way to inflate his BC to arrest the descent and went into a blind panic. I found him on the bottom a minute later thrashing. Number one rule in a panicked diver situation is not to become victim #2. You either make eye contact to calm them, find a way to get behind them to control them or you wait, keep your distance and let them go limp. I managed to get behind him but he was so wigged out, he kept trying to grab my 2nd stage, when I had my spare dangling in front of his face. Another 30 seconds of wrestling as he was trying to kill us both, while I was ditching his lead belt and I managed to shove the reg into his mouth. He still kept trying to step on my head on the way up. :)

Yeah, it may not seem like a big deal, if you jump in rapids with no lifevest or anything to save a drowning person like poor peter, got a headcold, anyway, yeah

I once rescued a man who had drifted off in the sea and couldn't swim. He was calling out for help and I was the only one nearby.
He held me so tight that I almost drowned myself, but I managed to take him to a depth where he could stand on his feet again.
I think he was embarrased and ran off without saying a word.

Surely you mean to say "Have you ever risked your own life saving someone elses?"

Since it reads, to me at least, as you wanting to know if I had done something risky, and in the process accidentally saved someone else's.

e.g. I was skydiving one day from 10,000 feet using a bin bag as a parachute when I accidentally landed on a guy in a coma and shocked him awake!

Anyway, the answer, so far, is no, I haven't.
