Maybe cause monkeys like to eat monkey nuts in the wild? and peanuts cause they are small and pea shaped?

i guess thats cause when monkeys get them in the trees they're still in their shells where as for us they're normally pre-shelled when we get them and they're not much bigger than peas. ...?

Have you ever been to a zoo? next time you go check out the monkey exhibit and look between the legs of the monkeys - on about half of them you will see why "peanuts" are sometimes called "monkeynuts".
It's not a pretty sight to see - but it is instructive.
