Im 17 and ive been working this whole year. i made roughly around $8,000 working part time and i also go to school. i live with my parents and last year they claimed me as a dependents. i was wondering how much and if any money i would get back if i file

    It depends on how much was taken out. The amount you would be refunded would be the difference between what was taken out and what you would actually owe

    Fill out the forms and see how it would work out.

    as with the other answers..depends...BUT do not be too quick to claim yourself as a dependent because there is more to this than the refund(s). If you are no longer on your parent's return, will you also lose your medical coverage? and what about car insurance?

    You can file taxes AND have your parents claim you on their taxes. My son is 17 and I was able to claim him and I helped him file his taxes. You will be asked on the tax form if someone is claiming you as a dependant. My son received all of what he paid in taxes, federal and state.
