  • It will appear black exactly for the reason you have cited. That it does not reflect any light. Isn't everything black in the dark? Its because there is no light to reflect. This is a lay man's explanation. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  • Because there is no perfect "black". Scientists (and dye makers) have struggled to achieve a perfect black (a soot-type of compound is the closest we've gotten). Most 'black' dyes are just very, very dark blues. Therefore a certain amount of light is reflected, seeing as not all the light is perfectly absorbed. There is also the art of perception. If you were to see a perfectly 'black' object, you would 'see' it due to it's contrast with it's background -- its absence of color would be conspicuous against the colors of the background.
