It is certainly a privilege to have a true friend and the answers presented here are filled with straight foward common sense. The people who have answered this question should have close friends for I feel they themselves are that, indeed, a true friend. That mentioned, I wish to suggest the following: • A true friend is one who is their own individual, who 'magically' steps to their own drummer, without the need to be 'other' just because they 'choose' to be so: it is to these whose rymthm marches through time immemorial. They never give unwanted 'advice,' as they understand each of us must, most times, find clearer paths through own own experiences. • A true friend studies and practices the art of cooperation, knowing that without it, they may be a lonely, unproductive island unto their own. • A true friend has money and assets that they have earned by self-determination and concrete effort, never expecting to be delivered favors or cash 'just 'cause.' Someone who gives you space when you need it...doesn't push advice on you...is supportive no matter what choices you make...doesn't try to steal your boyfriend or girlfriend. OH and someone who doesn't accuse you of BS.

A true friend is someone who you can let down a thousand times and they still won't be disappointed in you, and someone who you can tell anything to. Someone who you can go to for advice you wouldn't trade for anything, and someone who knows more about you than your friends/family/bf/gf put together. They're someone who you can not see for a year and start up right where you left off, and they're someone who will tell you exactly what they think about you/anything at the time. That's a true friend, and that's exactly what my best friend is like. I love her to death, and the above is why!

I alway thought it was someone who is typically always there for you no matter what. If You're feeling down, you can confide in them and they can keep it secret and hopfully give advice. They also should habg out with you, You should be able to talk with them about anything, no matter the subject. I never had a friend like this, but what a luxury right? HEHEH. Someone who doesn't judge you, who's always there for you. Someone you can just sit with, you don't need words. Someone who is 100% loyal and you always know it, you nevr wonder. That's what a true friend is to me...I have one just like that.
