  • That's a good question lol. I'll take a shot in the dark and say words, my only reasoning that I have right now is that you have to teach a baby to talk before you teach it to read. I think words come more naturally because as you grow, you need to make sense of things around you, and in the times when writing tools weren't around, they just had to use words.
  • Yes, spoken language came before written language.
  • Words. The first alphabet didn't come into existence until around 1200 BC. (If you think about it, there really isn't a whole lot of need for an alphabet without a written language. This is one of the things that bugged me about the Civilization series-- the Alphabet tech was a pre-requisite for Writing in those games.)
