  • We do not go to church because of them. We go to church because we go their to meet and have personal time with God. It is like a brother of mine has hurt me and he is visiting my dad at the same time as me, will I not go there because he coming there as well? Am I not going there to meet my dad alone and not for avoiding my brother? Now if my dad has made my elder brother responsible for certain duties for which I have to approach him, I will still go to him only to show respect to my dad. If my brother is a crony, this is my father's issues, my duty would be to notify and inform my dad. So even if he has sinned, that should not stop you from visiting the church. I personally, do not take communion from the priest whose ideology or attitude I do not agree with. I completely ignore them ans their sermon and spend that time praying and having personal talk with my God.
  • Habit - and we are often reluctant to break away from our traditional ways. I think we are all getting much smarter and more discerning now and no longer blindly accept that these priests are infalable or so rightous.
  • Because no one is perfect. Don't judge the whole church because of a few bad apples. There is bad lurking everywhere, not going to church is not the answer.
  • Since I'm not Catholic I can't really answer this question, but want to point out that NO Pope has EVER been accused of abusing/raping kids. Yes many Priests have and the Catholic Church tried to keep it hushed. I believe they did this so that the world would not look at ALL Priests as pedophiles. But that is my own opinion, since I have never spoken to the Pope or any other member of this Church. God Bless, <:))))<><
  • http://www.watchtower.org/e/19850122/article_01.htm Child molestation is rampant because we live in the last days. The above article should provide some helpful suggestions on how to protect your child from this kind of harm.
  • I am not a catholic, nore am I the world's view of a Christian or even very religous. However, I do have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. You will always find sin in every religion. But I like your questions, I have never agreed with the whole priests forgiving us, it's not up to them, it's up to God. But really, you can't look for God in men, you won't find him there which is something I have been finding out. But to your question, you have to make your own choice. The Church or any church will just say you need to go to church because you need to, which is legalism, to the letter rather than the spirit. Oh and there's only two religions by the way. Grace and works, either you have to work to go to heaven, or it's a free gift from Jesus. And if it is works, then Jesus wouldn't of had to die on the cross, and it would mean nothing.
  • We all like to be lead. We like to think like the others. I'm the exeption of course - I think for myself and don't care a bit for their forgivness.
  • Many doctors and teachers have "raped kids and committed all kinds of crimes." Does this stop you going to the hospital or sending your kids to school?
  • like to stereotype much? there are bad people in every part of life.....no group is exempt; just remember it's bad PEOPLE ~ not their chosen profession.
  • Tradition? ;-)
  • A wise person would seek the WORD. and PRAY for the HOLY SPIRIT to GUIDE him/her down that path that leads to salvation with the LORD. Sure we all need forgiveness from each other. But the only one who can wash away all our sins. Is our HOLY Father God through the mighty BLOOD of JESUS CHRIST our LORD......But first you must confess your sins to the LORD thy GOD. And by faith believe that JESUS is GOD, for HE & the HOLY FATHER are as of one. And that JESUS came into this world sinless. And died on the cross. And rose again on the 3rd day, paying for all sin. Don't let the news stop you from going to Church. Test the waters by reading the HOLY BIBLE, and praying for HOLY guiding If you find a place that dose not teach the truth to Gods HOLY WORD. Then speak up & ask the pastor about it. Have him show you where it is written in the HOLY Fathers WORD. And if this can not or will not be done. Then seek another place until you find the one that teaches GOD's HOLY WORD & not mans. And always remember that a church building is not a CHURCH. A true CHURCH, is when two or more are gathered together in CHRIST name. For the TRUE CHURCH is the people that makes the BODY OF CHRIST. And where two or more are gathered in CHRIST name. There He CHRIST is also....Seek & Ye shall find.............Take care my FRIEND.,,,,,,,,,,,M.C.S.
  • I am no Catholic, in fact, I am not religious at all, but I think that it would be foolish to assume that all priests are child molesters, besides, in church don't you listen to God's word (through the priest) and seek God's forgiveness? So as to why people go to churh? Well, people either go out of true faith or obligation (parents make them etc.).
  • First, you have no idea about Christian tradition because of Martin Luther's break.....and none of us are without sin. Christ said do not judge and to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you....
  • In this case, we shouldn't listen to teachers because a few commit sexual offenses.
  • I wouldnt listen and I would question anyone that would! _____ About 4 percent of U.S. priests ministering from 1950 to 2002 were accused of sex abuse with a minor, according to the first comprehensive national study of the issue. The study said that 4,392 clergymen—almost all priests—were accused of abusing 10,667 people, with 75 percent of the incidents taking place between 1960 and 1984. During the same time frame there were 109,694 priests, it said. Sex-abuse related costs totaled $573 million, with $219 million covered by insurance companies, said the study done by the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. No action was taken against a priest in 10 percent of the allegations, and in 6 percent of the allegations the priests were reprimanded and returned to ministry, reported the study. Other actions included suspending priests involved in 29 percent of the allegations and placing priests involved in 24 percent of the allegations on administrative leave, it said. The study listed the main characteristics of the sex abuse incidents reported. These included: -- An overwhelming majority of the victims, 81 percent, were males. The most vulnerable were boys aged 11 to 14, representing more than 40 percent of the victims. This goes against the trend in the general U.S. society where the main problem is men abusing girls. -- A majority of the victims were post-pubescent adolescents with a small percentage of the priests accused of abusing children who had not reached puberty. -- Most of the accused committed a variety of sex acts involving serious sexual offenses. -- The most frequent context for abuse was a social event and many priests socialized with the families of victims. -- Abuses occurred in a variety of places with the most common being the residence of the priest.
  • Jesus said not to judge.
  • No Pope has been accused of molestation. A few priests have. In every population of human beings are going to a few sick or evil people who commit horrible crimes, even in the Church. The percentage of pedophiles in the clergy of the Catholic Church is actually less than that of society in general. These few terrible people do not negate the faith, hope and love of over one billion Catholics. Remember that the Church is neither the Church hierarchy nor the priests. The Church is God and His relationship with over one billion living Catholics on Earth and God only knows how many in heaven, all of whom make up the Body of Christ. Remember that political scandals in nations, even up to and including the highest leaders, like President Nixon and the Watergate scandal, do not make the nation as a whole wrong, immoral, or worthless. And the Catholic Church is so much holier and more important than any nation. With love in Christ.
