  • The word "jaywalking" is not actually defined in the Georgia's Criminal Code but Title 40 Chapter 6 Article 5 (Rights and Duties of Pedestrians) covers pedestrian rules including... § 40-6-92. Crossing roadway elsewhere than at crosswalk (c) Between adjacent intersections at which traffic-control signals are in operation, pedestrians shall not cross at any place except in a marked crosswalk. (d) No pedestrian shall cross a roadway intersection diagonally unless authorized by official traffic-control devices. When authorized to cross diagonally, pedestrians shall cross only in accordance with the official traffic-control devices pertaining to such crossing movements. § 40-6-96. Pedestrians walking on or along roadway (a) Where a sidewalk is provided, it shall be unlawful for any pedestrian to walk along and upon an adjacent roadway. § 40-6-90 Obedience to traffic-control devices and traffic regulations (a) A pedestrian shall obey the instructions of any official traffic-control device specifically applicable to him, unless otherwise directed by a police officer. • Unable to be lawful if law is confusing. Even the police interperent these laws subjectively. Anywhere a pedestrian steps into the street, becomes a crosswalk unless otherwise forbidden by other statutes . Not impeding traffic and not a traffic hazard when crossed empty street. It' revenue and not for safety when nitpicking to absurdity overwheling targeting the Indigent carless underclass. Government oppression with overwhelming monetary penalty unevenly applied due to profiling of obvious porverty - checking to see if there are any open wants & warrants. • Too vague. I especially have trouble with jaywalkers at shopping centers or grocery stores. People just walk right out in front of drivers as if they're totally safe, and get mad if anything is said to them. It's a shared 50/50 responsibility, not 100% in favor of the pedestrian as most believe. We need a clearly defined law in GA. A law that says if a vehicle is coming, and you are considering stepping out into the intersection, DO NOT. Then, for the drivers, if someone is in the intersection, the driver must stop. But like other things in GA, it won't happen the way it needs to, because this state is too concerned about other things.
