It probably would contribute to the rampant starvation, disease and warfare already caused by economic disparities. In a way it would exacerbate what has been occurring and probably has always occurred. In the West and other "first" world countries we tend to ignore the fact that most of the world's population lives on the edge of poverty or in it. These people live hand to mouth and as urbanization and global warming has occurred their ability grow what they eat where they live has decreased significantly. As well, the more densely populated a place is the more likely it is to be unhealthy. When we support economies that provide cheaper labour at any price we draw people from self-sufficient livelihoods to wage based one. When the plug is pulled on these jobs the personal infrastructure that previously supported these folks is no longer in place. They risk further poverty and starvation as a result.

the trucks have to keep running to keep the grocery stores working. and the big markets at the wharfs and the local vegetable and fruit markets. if they shut down...it would be big trouble. the emergency rooms are already maxed out. if there was no electricity then that would be bad news.

Yes it could. Think of the famine and diseases that could come about as a result of not having the means to buy food, meds, healthcare and adecuate living conditions
