Try "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber.

Try "Youth" by JM Coetzee. It's quite a depressing book, (but quite a good one) so I wouldn't read it if you're feeling really, really low- but it'd probably be OK if you're just feeling a bit bored and cynical.

"The Old Man And The Sea". There's nothing duller than that book, and there's nothing duller than that character. I mean, the whole book is about this old guy who goes out, every single day, for 40 years, onto the sea and tries to catch a fish, and hasn't for 40 years. I mean, that's all he does, and that's what the book is about, just this guy fishing, he can't even catch a fish. I mean, even the climax is boring. He catches a big fish that drags his boat, but its too drawn out. Read this book, or watch this movie and you'll appreciate your life much more, you won't think you're dull.

"Death of a Salesman," Arthur Miller. Pretty grim. It will certainly make your life feel less dull.

I like the "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" by James Thurber idea too.

Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" is just TOO grim.

You're better than that. There are very few books about boring people leading boring lives, because that isn't what sells books. If you read a really good book then you get transported into the action, losing yourself in interplay of personalities and becoming the interesting character with traits that you should possess. There are books that I can pick up and put down, and I find I can read the stories but they are not really satisfying. The ones that really stick in my memory are those that I start to read and miss going to sleep for, because I have to turn the next page, and the next one. When you are depressed these are the books you need to turn to - the ones that transport from our real world into the wilds of the African savanah, or the Tibetan mountains, or the Amazonian forest, or hanging from a cliff of solid ice. We all have dull lives, but most of us find a way to escape from them for a little while, and so make life more bearable. What you need is adventure, not depression.

Yes, there are. Unfortunately, I've forgotten all of them, even the ones I read through. I know this is not very helpful. You sound depressed Satine. Are you sure its a good idea to read depressing books when you are depressed? I always read humor, like Terry Pratchett's DiscWorld series satire, when I'm down. It's hard to feel dull when you are laughing your head off. I have found that the best way to feel less dull is to add something YOU don't consider dull as a regular part of it. (I know, harder than it sounds.) <If you REALLY, REALLY want a dull book, I will go look one up for you.>

Youre life is so dull now you want to READ about some ficticious DULL Life in hopes of what?Dull+DULL=SOme cosmic switch occures where "yes" is "no" and "get off yer ass and do something" is the same as "read a book about it." If you get my point.
