    Cremation is the most
    practical,
    hygienic,
eco-friendly method of disposal of the dead,
...if one is not a Cannibal.

Thus there are no resources wasted on building and maintaining graves, revisiting them, building shrines or fighting over them, getting hurt by their desacration', etc.
The carbon-footprient of a one-off cremation is miniscule compared to any alternative method,
except perhaps the stone-age 'cairn' burial.

Typical Hindu memorial service is and annual ritual feast to the [gluttonous] priest class,
but nowadays many people feed the poor and hungry
on the death-anniversary of their dear ones.

In reality, the dead live in the memory of those whom leave behind, irrespective or religion or belief.
