Question

Help answer this question below.

My "friend" believes there should be equal opportunity for financial aid for college, regardless of your parent's income (given you are living with them...). Isn't it called FINANCIAL aid for a reason and there are scholarships for another? Hmmm....

Far too often Equal Opportunity is taken to mean equal results. There will always be greater and lesser people than yourself. Equal Opportunity? It is a dream. Those who go to private schools, have tutors, and are given special privilege are almost always going to come out on top. We never have had, nor will we ever have, equal opportunity. I know it is a pretty crappy thing to say, but I didn't make the rules, I just observe the game.

DO you think that we should all be paying the same federal taxes too because we are all living in America experiencing the same rights?
Some people are blessed enough to have the money for college and therefore should not have to call on the government to pay for their schooling. Some people are not, and if you would talk to a finincial aid advisor about your situation, they can explain to you why you got the aid you did, and why you didnt get the aid you think you deserve.

It wouldn't be equal because I have to pay rent and my own bills while someone else gets to live off of daddy and doesn't need a job. I didn't "f*ck up and have a baby" like your friend said but that doesn't change my entire financial history. I still need aid while in school. I have to pay for my own schooling, my own wedding and honeymoon and all of my own bills and if I found out that someone else had a free ride in life and was getting my financial aid, I'd be pissed. If your family has enough to support you while you're in school, you can go out and get a job and use all of that money and private loans if you like.

Also, most people who require financial aid probably had to work while in high school too and may not have done as well as those who did not have to work. If your family has enough money that you don't need to work while in high school, you have no excuse for not receiving any academic scholarships for college.
