  • Watch the movie "Children of Men" The last major scene looks like it is one long shot but I learned it was just a very good edit job, so it is possible with some planning

  • Check out "Rope" by Alfred Hitchcock: the whole film is one shot! Basically he panned across monochromatic objects. But perhaps you are not talking of a pan. In one film he started with a closeup of 2 dancers. The camera backs away, first to reveal the dance floor & other dancers. Then we back away from a window that we've been looking through to reveal a brick wall. He started with the camera against the window & carried the wall with him, dropping it off along the way.
