In all actuality reading any book increases your brains activity and helps you to retain knowledge in everyday situations. Some books i would recommend would be instruction manuals for things like how to play instruments and basic science, math and history books. If you don' t find the subject interesting or if you start falling asleep while reading then it is pointless to attemt the material. I'm more of a Stephen King kind of guy though. The newspaper is really helpful as well.Hope this helps
