I prefer 3rd, just because it's the best way of distancing oneself from the characters. Then 2nd, because it's very rarely used, and therefore interesting. I dislike 1st, because it's sort of child-like at times.

I've never thought of that as a condition of enjoying a book. Now that you mention it, though, my favorites are in third person but with a strong emphasis on the main character. I don't really care for books that jump around to everyone for four or five hundred pages before really making it a single story.

3rd person omniscient. Although, 'Seize the Night' was a GREAT first person book.
