  • The appearance of political parties in the United States shortly after the adoption of the Constitution was due largely to the conflict with the conduct of government, politics, and personal perferences between Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson. Here we see the rise of the Federalist and the Demoocratic-Republicans(Anti-Federalist). Hamilton, Federalist: -Believed in a powerful central government. -The government should represent the common, but be run by people who were experts in the field. -Stood for loose construction of the Constitution. -Made up largely of large landholders, merchants, manufacturers, bankers, lawyers, and those who held government bonds. Basically your business men. Jefferson, Democratic-Republicans: -Favored state's rights. -Opposed expanding powers of the federal government. -Stood for strict construction of the Constitution. Having more then one political party ensures compromise and that everyones voice is heard. The reason why third partys pop up is to generally bring one certain topic to light and make it a big button issue. To get it out there, and talked about. I hope that's what you were looking for. If not, I can try expounding more.
