I don't think that's what the question was about - rather that Republicans love to preach to everyone else about family values - when in practice they are the same as everyone else.

The only people I have seen judging people are the dems judging the Palin family so I guess what comes around goes around. But the dems get a pass for being judgmental and claim as you just did that they are merely pointing out the hypocritisy. Call is what you want but it is judging whether is it done by a dem or a rep and people need to quit.

I don't have any problem judging the hypocrisy of anyone. But in general it's the R's who go on about various sexual practices and the morality of this and that - while behaving like everyone else when the door is closed.

To be clear - I, at least, am not judging the girl getting pregnant (nor the guy posing nude, like you seem to be). Nor do I judge homosexuality or any other sex between consenting adults. I judge the hypocrisy of getting blows job from male pages while passing laws against gay rights or impeaching a president for getting blow jobs from female pages.

@ 23Skidoo- I am not saying Levi will go to hell or anything like that is not my place. I am saying as a parent I would not want my daughter to be married to someone in that line of work. Especially someone with a family already involved with drugs. Can you as a parent honestly say you would not care?

Posing nude isn't generally considered porn. Doing it once isn't generally considered "in that line of work". And I'm sure your comments above weren't in the slightest judgmental.

What do you tell people before you are elected? Do you say, :I stand for the rights of all adults to love and have sex with any other consenting adult they want - and to enjoy all rights and obligations of marriage, adoption etc." Or do you say "Some acts are too immoral to be allowed in public, those who do them should be denied teaching jobs, marriage, it should be legal to bar them from workplaces..."

Once elected it's a person's obligation to remain consistent with the message that got him there - but sometimes to also change and lead people in a new direction.

Black would still be sitting in the back of the bus if southern leaders were allowed to act as you describe.

I did not say all that. If they are qualified for a job then they should get it. - I am against gay marriage. I believe that everyone Hetero and Homo should get a civil union from the gov for those issues as taxes/next of kin/ins etc. And leave marriage to the churches.

You are right on the first part. But It is never an elected officals job to go against the will of the people or to lead them anywhere. And just so you know the southern leaders did vote for the blacks to stay in the back of the bus. But as more people voiced their opinion in favor of civil rights that is what happened. I believe there are more good people in the USA (even in the south) than racists and bigots.

There are times when leaders have to make choices that might go against their constituencies - cutting expenses or raising taxes for instance. Greece is a great example of elected official following the "will of the people".

Porn - is nudity by itself sexually explicit? Maybe that's a matter of opinion. I have no problem with people having differences there. As I said, I have a problem when someone talks one line (against gays or choice, for instance) in order to get elected when in their private lives they have had (or their wife / daughter) had an abortion or the person has gay relationships. Hypocrisy isn't uniquely a Republican thing - but it's found on that side much more often since there are very few anti-gay or choice Dems. And Dems rarely toe the Family Values trademark - so they even can have an easier time keeping sexual affairs out of their political lives - unless R's push them to ridiculous and irrelevant hights.

As for marriage - I agree. The US, with it's separation of church and state, is unique. Europe, where many countries have official state religions do require people to have a civil marriage and if they chose, they can follow it with a religious one.

I don't care if religions restrict their marriages to whomever they wish - it's meaningless to anyone else anyway. But I don't see how the government can limit any kind of unions among consenting adults at all - gay, among 23 people, whatever. It's their own private business. I've often thought that, since the civil part of marriage is primarily a business arrangement, asset sharing and division in case of break-up, taxes, and information - the govt should simply stay out of it all together and recognize partnership contracts like in businesses.

As far as running on family values, we all fall short of things but that does not mean we do not know what is right. Say I am a drunk as manage to get elected. And a bill comes up saying that we are going to make drunk driving a more serious offense with more fines and jail time. I have heard from 10s of thousands of people in my state/district and they are overwhelmingly for it. And I vote for it--because it is the right thing (drunk driving is wrong and I know it) to do for the safety of the people and the have voiced that they are for it. But I still am a drunk and drive drunk regularly. Does that make me a hypocrite or does that make me a person who is standing up for what the people want? I believe I am a person standing for the people. However, I would be a hypocrite if I thought when I got pulled over that I should not get my ticket and fine/jail time.

Dems only keep their affairs and such out of the press as much because the press does not push the issue with them so much. And if the do, in the new broadcast you will not hear Dem. Joe Smith you will only hear Joe Smith. I have learned that if in your memory you don't remember the party in front of the name then it is a Dem. But you even admit the Dems get a pass. (And Dems rarely toe the Family Values trademark - so they even can have an easier time keeping sexual affairs out of their political lives)

In Greece the politician DID do what the people wanted. They kept entitlements high and taxes didn't rise to meet expenses. Today there are protests (the people stating their desire) trying to keep the government from reducing benefits or raising taxes.

The press don't push affairs with the dems as much because it's not as sensational when you're not chasing a guy who's been harping on "traditional values" all along. Hypocrisy sells papers.

The poor do not pay taxes here. I am married with 3 children and have not paid income tax since the 1st child was born. We pay what most pay Social Security Tax. And I have not problem with that. I just amazes me how many people do not know the are not paying income tax.
